Overview - COOKING TO LEARN BINDERS SET OF 3

Motivate students to learn basic reading and writing skills with the fun step-by-step cooking activities and corresponding worksheets in these three binders. The easy-to-follow recipes offer life-skills experience as students prepare food themselves using common inexpensive ingredients.

Each recipe features illustrated and non-illustrated activities to allow teachers to use the same lesson plan with students of varying abilities. Recipes in each binder include a selection of breakfast, lunch or dinner, snack and dessert, and drink choices.

Practical Skills The simple, "real-world" activities were designed to provide "hands-on"
ways to help students improve sequencing, reading comprehension, vocabulary, expressive language, problem-solving, written language, and social skills. Multiple-choice activities prepare students for standardized test formats.

Binder 1 The 290-page binder offers 29 cooking activities. Recipes include strawberry banana waffle, grilled cheese sandwich, pita sandwich, ravioli, fruit salad, no-bake cookies, stuffed celery, raspberry orange blend, and more.

Binder 2 The 300-page binder includes 29 more recipes. Features an Index of Skills and Assessment Checklist. Recipes include breakfast burritos, cheese bread, tuna melt, fruit pizza, raspberry twists, red lemonade, and more.

Introducing Recipes from Around the World

Binder 3 The newest addition to the Cooking to Learn series is a 300-page binder that includes 25 multicultural recipes representing various countries and regions around the world. The lesson structure remains the same as in the two previous binders, with the addition of two new features. The binder features simple recipes from Canada, China, India, Ireland, Mexico, Tahiti, Vietnam, and more. Also includes an Index of Skills and an Assessment Checklist.

Customer Reviews
"Cooking to Learn all 3 binders" by LifeSkills Coach  Friday, June 27, 2008

This is a great set of resources that combines reading, math, and listening/speaking strategies. These hands-on activities help students to feel successful. The added bonus of learning about different types of foods and even facts about other cultures makes this product a cross-curricular gem. In one lesson, my students who are struggling readers accomplish multiple tasks such as reading for a purpose, math with a purpose, and following multiple step directions, plus they see a result of their labors. This highly effective resource would be a great asset to any secondary special ed reading, math, social studies, or resource class.
